Counselling with Dr. Judith C Miller

I provide private counselling to adults, teens and young people regardless of their gender, sexual orientation or cultural background. I work with individuals and couples in crisis and much of the work is focused on resolving challenging relationship issues that come from both past and present circumstances.

In my practice, I draw on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy and a somatic approach informed by Bioenergetics. Essentially, my work is person-centred so together we work out what is most useful for you.

It is important to me that in the process of counselling, people become empowered and discover how best to care for themselves.

FAQs

Who do you work with?

I work with adults of all ages, teenagers, and young people. I also work with couples. You are welcome here no matter your background, gender, or sexuality. If you’re going through something, or just need someone to talk to, I’m here to support you

What kinds of problems do people come to you with?

People see me for many reasons; anxiety, depression, stress, grief, past trauma, or relationship issues in which more often than not communication has broken down. Some feel lost or stuck. You don’t need to have a clear reason to come. If something doesn’t feel right, we can talk about it.

What happens in a counselling session?

We sit down and talk. You can share whatever feels right for you. I’ll listen and help you make sense of what’s going on. Sometimes we just focus on how you’re feeling today. Sometimes we need to deal with issues that have their roots in childhood or past relationships. It’s your time, and we go at your pace with an approach best suited to your needs.

How long does counselling take?

It really depends. Some people come for a few sessions, others stay longer. We check in along the way to see how things are going. You’re never locked in, you can pause or stop anytime.

Is what I say in counselling kept private?

Yes, absolutely. What you share stays between us. The only time I might need to share something is if there’s a serious safety concern like if you or someone else is at risk of harm. If that ever comes up, I’ll explain clearly what needs to happen. Otherwise, this is your space to speak freely.
